Silver Stains -2009-

Stains, you always want to avoid them. And most of the time, when it’s already too late, you try to hide them by swiftly putting a glass on it, or any other object you can find on the table during diner..

With ‘Silver Stains’ you don't need to be afraid of making stains on your wooden table or tablecloth, they are already there! Only this time they’re more valuable and you can use them as a coaster.

Rosarium -2009-

Every day we go trough a number of actions; because they are regularly conducted in the same way, you can speak of a ritual.
By using objects, each standing for a certain action, I have mapped an individual ritual: each step has its own place in a certain order, this creates a sort of puzzle in height.
Because each layer fits into the one lying underneath, the ritual can not be changed and stays preserved. You have to go through the ritual step by step, just like a Rosary.

Besides a product serving as a reminder, the object also can be used as a jewel: the separate components can be removed from each layer and easily worn as a pendant.

Cells -2009-

'Cells' is a translation of the cell division in our body. By composing different groups, each consisting of the same cell shapes, I created a series of seven brooches.
The brooches have a three-dimensional character because they are made of several layers of material.

Brooches
Copper, rubber, acrylic paint
4cm x 3cm x 1,5cm - 7,5cm x 7,5cm x 3cm

Identity -2009-

Every day we get confronted by all kinds of impressions, we get influenced, but also form our own subjective idea; this may lead to an (incorrect) opinion.
This also happens on a daily base during our way to work or school.

Based on the streets in my way home, I designed a subjective collection of jewellery. Every street is represented by an object that's typical for the residents: a cup of tea for the seniors, a beer can for the loitering, a pack of cigarettes for the businessmen and a nursing bottle for young families with children.

Because the objects are labeled and made of a blank material, the series 'Identity' is a subtle reference to the prejudices one can make about others: even without realizing it, we give each (blank and unknown) person a tag.

Fragile -2009-

Written language is a very important way to communicate, but sometimes it fails in its nature when we precisely want to discuss what an image shows or when we want to express our feelings.
The material 'Fragile' is made of represents literally the fragility of the written word.

Tangible -2009-

Can we speak of a jewel when it's not wearable on the body?
With 'Tangible' memories of potential adornments are caught in various sorts of materials.
The shape of the objects refer tot the symbolic, often religious, pendants we know from the Victorian period.

Vol-ledig -2009-

When I found this branch, I immediately saw a pattern of life lines in its bark. By making a silver inlay for these lines and a crochet thread for the core of the wood, the empty dead sprig becomes a new one full of life.

 Cephalopoda -2009-

The inspiration for this jewellery collection are micro-organisms.
At first glance these objects look very friendly because of their soft skin and color, but if you look closer you can see they are all in possession of stings.
You can use the stings to pin the forms on your clothes and wear them as a brooch resting on your shoulder.

Bond -2008-

Formerly an official portrait was the perfect way to portray a family and to show their interconnections.
Nowadays this almost no longer happens; parents get devorced, the kids move out of the parental home because of their studies or because they move in with their partner in another town.
At some point the family gets scattered across the whole country.
The series 'Bond' shows the mutual bond of a family in several types of brooches.

Polyps -2008-

When you wear these vesicles, they seem naturally grown onto the body.
They are designed to serve as an extension of the human body: a squeeze in the spherical part of the vesicle spreads a pleasant odor.

That's why 'Polyps' is a subtle updated version of the old vaporizer.

Warmth -2008-

When we think of a tea cozy, immediately all kinds of clichés such as caring, warmth and homeliness will pop up.
But the idea of mothers waiting with a cup of tea and biscuits for their kids to come home from school dissapears slowly nowadays.

With 'Warmth' are different generations of family and their history captured. Now we will always be reminded of 'the good old days' when we pour a cup of tea.

Hersenspinsels (Chimera) -2007-

Occasionally, all our thoughts occupy too much space in our head, they seem to be a knotted tangle of wires. They are a burden on our shoulder, you seem to choke..

Chimera, a visualization of our thoughts.
